This has nothing to do with mistake, aside from trial and error (save before you engage, reload if it's an MD). The player should never ever learn from his mistakes. I once fought a patrol mission for 3 hours, against some 60+ ships including 20+ M8 that chased me the entire sector. And this is assuming you're facing only ONE enemy. And frankly, at that range you can't pull away if you want to if the enemy already locked into you, even with a jumpdrive. And for a fighter, the difference between 5km and firing range is about 2sec, and in that 2 sec, hitting the scan button, look up the info and pull away is hardly an option. Unless I'm missing something, a max scan range is 5km. Shooting stuff is fun, scanning it isn't. Yes, I could probably avoid it, but it would suck all the fun out of the combat missions. This wouldn't be more than an irritant later on, when I can comfortably afford the repairs. I'm complaining about a pitiful little M4 or whatever costing me 5m in repairs because I didn't scan all 50 of them. I'm not complaining about a heavily armed frigate wasting me or something. The player should not ignore missions he can't reasonably do. 2) Why should an M7 even need to scan them? M3-5s go from harmless to seriously threatening my bank account (if not my life really) with just the one weapon. The poor range on the scanner might condemn me to damage anyway. Even with the new scanning command, I still have to actually look through every one of them. Scanning all those ships is a serious pain. Two issues though: 1) Alas, the X interface.
